Leaving for the season? These steps prevent the most common winter problems in empty houses on the East End.

  1. Set the heat to 55°F or higher. Never turn it off.

  2. Open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls.

  3. Shut off water to the washer and any outdoor lines, and drain outdoor spigots.

  4. Add a Wi-Fi leak and temperature sensor (about $30) that alerts your phone.

  5. Leave a key and your number with a neighbor or caretaker.

  6. Make sure your propane can't run out: turn on automatic delivery and smart tank monitoring, and book a fill before you leave.

Why the propane step matters

A heating system that runs dry is the most common cause of frozen pipes in empty homes. With automatic delivery, Green Earth Propane tracks your usage and refills your tank before it runs low, and we can coordinate with your caretaker or property manager.

Call 631-500-5080 before you go. We deliver across the North and South Forks.
